Judith R. Dickinson Philosophy & Goals Judith works chiefly in oils, pastels, and graphite. Her work is representational; and though it has been called photo-realistic, her goal is to go beyond photo-realism to capture the unique beauty and essence that is inherent in her subject. Judith is captivated by the importance and drama of the interplay of light within dark in her work, in the manner of the classical portraits of the Old Masters. She enjoys all types of paintings (still life, landscape, seascape), but portraits remain her first love and most unique gift. Judith has an amazing ability to create exceptional likenesses that capture the heart and personality of the individual. She feels that nothing is as challenging and rewarding as painting a person: the luminosity and translucency of the skin, the life and sparkle of the eyes, and the personality of the subject. In Judith's latest series of paintings, she has enjoyed painting a variety of unique antiques into her portraits of children, feeling that the juxtaposition of the old with the young is delightfully whimsical & appealing. Judith also enjoys working on what she calls "Memory Paintings". These are paintings of collections of precious things in a person's life which Judith arranges and paints as a still life composition. |
